Authority formed in late 2005, featuring ex-members of The Monsoon Bassoon. The Monsoon Bassoon split up in 2001, having somehow managed to get three singles of the week in row in the NME for their unique polyrhythmic psychedelia.

In their eight year span they became a much celebrated London cult band, easily selling out venues such as The Garage and The Water Rats.

A critically acclaimed album followed and despite the uncommercial nature of the far out and beautiful music it contained it notched up glowing reviews from such disparate publications as The Guardian, NME and Heat.

After the band had split, songwriters Kavus Torabi and Dan Chudley continued writing in their uncompromising style, and had little success in finding musicians capable or indeed willing to perform their music. In the meantime Kavus Torabi joined Cardiacs as guitarist and later Guapo for whom he plays guitar live.

Reunited with drummer Jim Keddie, Torabi and Chudley found an outlet for their songs in Authority and with the addition of Craig Fortnam on bass (the composer and lynchpin of The North Sea Radio Orchestra) have a formidable vehicle for their delirious take on rock.

While Authority is not The Monsoon Bassoon the band continue the relentless experimentation and bizarre arrangements that characterised their previous group. Authority will be gigging throughout 2006, before recording their debut album in early 2007.

Authority is:
Dan Chudley- Voice and guitar
Kavus Torabi- Voice and guitar
Craig Fortnam- Bass
Jim Keddie- Drums
